Monday Connection (8/26)

Hello Readers,

Welcome to another round of Monday Connection. I am so glad you could join me. I know you have a lot on your plate, mama. So, the fact that you have taken the time to catch up with me is truly wonderful. I am beyond grateful for you!

How was your weekend? Have the little ones gone back to school yet? Did you have a moment with your family before heading back to work today? Are you already anticipating when your partner gets home to relieve you of parental duties? What ever your Monday already looks like, I hope you have taken a moment to take in a fresh breath.

Last weekend was my first time away from my daughter. I planned a personal retreat for myself so that I could spend some time working on my book. Unfortunately I did not get much book work done. I did, however, spend a lot of time doing a whole lot of nothing. Have you ever had a day when you planned to get things done, but you ended up on the couch binge watching Netflix? Yea, satisfying but not very productive.  Although I regret not using the opportunity, I am not going to hold on to the negative thoughts. Honestly, it helped me recharge my battery. Now I am ready to take on this week.

Don’t let guilt hinder your mom game. Sometimes we just need to take a break and that’s alright. Sometimes we break our promises to ourselves when we promise that we are going to do better. Sometimes trying to be a better you is just too exhausting, so we resort back to the old us. It’s ok, mama. I know you’re doing your best. Today is a new day to take on those promises to yourself again. Don’t give up. Just keep moving forward.

Monday Connection (8/12)

Hello Readers,

Another week has come and gone, and we are making our way through another Monday. Hold on tight to your coffee cups.

img_9214

How was your weekend? Were you able to find a moment for yourself? Did you finally pick up that book you’ve been wanting to read? Did you get to enjoy a glass of wine or drink a hot cup of coffee in silence?

It’s not everyday that I get to connect with a friend or have a quiet moment to myself. It seems like that glass of wine is few and far in between these days. So, I made sure to pencil in a few days of self-care these last couple of weeks. I read a book, enjoyed a glass of wine, went out with a good friend, and of course made time for family night out.

Now, I am energized and ready to connect with you. Are you ready to see what’s coming?

Happy August!

Another Summer month has come and gone, and now we are on to the last month before Fall arrives. Yes, I said it. FALL! (The basic girl in me is jumping for Pumpkin Latte joy!)

So, what are your plans on these last few weeks of warm weather? Have a trip coming up? Planning to see family? Sailing out into the breeze on smooth waters with plenty of relaxation and easy days before school starts?

img_9042

I’ve been hard at work finishing up my book and working on a new series for my blog. All work and no play, but I’ve got a little Summer Fun heading my way this weekend. Much needed break, that’s for sure.

I can’t wait to dive in and tell you what’s coming up, and catch you up on what you might have missed.

Our Messy little household had some summer fun this weekend. We took a nice drive to the water, ran around barefoot in the grass, had some lunch, and then of course ice cream. It was a nice time to be outside. I love making memories with my little munchkin.

Monday Connection (6/10)

Hello my beautiful Mama’s and maybe Dad’s,

Good morning, and thank you for joining me for another round of Monday Connection.

Let’s start with you? How was your weekend? Did you get out and enjoy the sun? Were you able to enjoy a hot cup of coffee? If it was chaotic, did you find a moment to breathe?

It was a beautiful weekend here on my little corner of the world. I enjoyed some time to unwind. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to soak much of it in. Boss Baby has had a bit of a rough weekend, so I had to put in a bit of over time. She’s had a few late nights and I’ve been on call. Praying for a steady work week.

Speaking of work week, today brings a new Monday. What does the new week have in store for you?

I am excited to connect with you. I have so much to tell you.

If you suffer from a mental illness, managing your symptoms while trying to be a good mom can be really hard. We do what we need to do and we fight how we need to fight. We do it for our babies because they deserve a parent who is all in, battling to be 100%, as much as we can.

In my post, You Didn’t Fail, I address the concern and stigma around managing mental illness with medication.

With Fathers Day right around the corner, I’ve got one for the dad’s.

In my post, A Fathers Role, I discuss how a fathers role in a child’s life has changed and how I am fortunate to have a husband who is fully involved in raising our daughter.

I’ve written letters to my daughter since before she was born. She’ll get most of those letters when she turns 18.

Some letters, I hope she finds while scouring the internet for homework projects, random searches, and while scrolling through whatever social media she uses during her time. I hope they spring upon her right at the moment she needs to read them. Like this letter, Dear Daughter, I Hope You Keep Your Spark.

Reading to your children when they are young is important. It creates a great bonding experience between you and your child. It also helps their development and builds their vocabulary. Check out these wonderful board books in my post, What’s In Her Book Case: Board Books for the First Year.

Regardless of how many sleep training specialists, books, and tricks are revolving around this parental atmosphere, popular opinion states that our children just don’t sleep. Some get out of bed with an almanac of questions wondering how the world works. They have to go to the bathroom. Oh and they need a glass of water. But what about the up-all-nighters? The kids who are awake and ready for the world at 12am.

I am a parent to one of those kids. Sometimes a quick transition to my bed get’s her back to sleep, but most nights I am going round after round with her to get her to fall back asleep. I can’t say that I blame her, sleeping can be pretty tough sometimes.

Cori, from This Maagnificent Life calls us the Midnight Mama’s in her post, Encouragement For The Midnight Mama. The name could not be more fitting. It makes the nights a little less Messy when you know your not the only one up at 3am.

I’ve got a couple more additions to my Pregnancy and Delivery Series, so keep your eye’s and uterus’s open for what’s coming next.

In the generation of gender neutral, my daughter still wears pink. I’ll tell you why in the next upcoming weeks.

Mental Health Awareness Month is over, but I’ve got more to say. Grab your life jackets as we sail out to treacherous waters in my upcoming Parenting With Anxiety post.

Before my daughter, my world revolved around my pet’s. It wasn’t until I had my own child that I realized raising pet’s is not nearly as difficult as raising babies. Probably not even close. Yet, I still love my little furry ones and their health and safety are still very important to me.

Find out what it’s like having both pet’s and children in my throwback post, Multi-Parenting; Raising Babies and Pets

Next week I’ll be diving back into managing anxiety as Mental Health Awareness Month comes to an end.

Parenting is hard. Even though we have different perspectives on how we should raise our children, we can all agree that it’s not easy. So, support in the parenting world is so important. Knowing that we are not alone keeps us going after we think we have failed. So, we may look to others when we are feeling lost in our parenting journey. Where do we go next.

Katie, from Our Daily Mess is a teacher turned stay at home mom, who uses her experiences with children to give us mom’s knowledge in positive parenting and how it has worked in her family. She does not push her discussion and thoughts onto her readers. Instead, she opens up a dialogue that could help us in our own journey. She understands that parenting can be messy and she’s got some tips on making it less chaotic while raising kind and emotionally intelligent children.

Go and subscribe to her website.

After becoming a mother, some of us lose a little bit of who we are. Some of us lose ourselves entirely. We may become so consumed by guilt of trying to be the perfect mother for our children that we forget about who we are. Sometimes, we are just so consumed in our new role that we forget to make time for ourselves. We miss the person we were and we feel incredibly ashamed. If this is you, then check out Identity Crisis After Becoming A SAHM from Sprinkles Of Chaos. Just know, us Messy Mama’s are not alone.
